Monroe County Early Childhood Profile

The Indiana Early Learning Advisory Committee (ELAC) is monitoring key indicators to track Indiana’s progress on making early childhood education accessible, affordable and high-quality for children and families.

The Monroe County Early Childhood Profile provides data specific to our community in four focus areas: Young Hoosier Children and Families; High-Quality Early Care and Education Programs; Early Care and Education Workforce; and Kindergarten Readiness.

Despite research supporting the value of quality early learning experiences, only 43% of Monroe County children ages 0 to 5 in early care programs are enrolled in high-quality early education programs.

Every year, approximately 60% of Monroe County children enter school without the benefit of high-quality early learning experiences, many of whom come from low- to moderate-income families.
